I vividly remember one conversation about memory sequences, where someone claimed that a white male character was treated favourably by the narrative over the POC main character because the former's memory was filmed in a more straightforward way. After which I tried to explain that there are different modes of storytelling which aren't necessarily hierarchically ordered in terms of what makes the most sense on the surface. I don't think she got it. That conversation depressed me.
