Agreed about the heart of Miriam's story. I love it being center on her career--and family, and yet the focal point of the family story is her parents! And husband, I suppose. Oh, I also meant to say I, too, think there's a "parents as people" theme, and I love that. It's a big part of my life and how I view the world, because realizing my mom was a person was a huge deal for me. I used to cry myself to sleep over it when I was 8, because I realized I'd basically taken her life away from her (I was not an accident and the third of her children, but I was heartbroken over the idea that she had to think of me before she thought of herself, just because I happened to be her child. Even after she told me she liked it!)
