I remember being a bit thrown by the attitude to Aborigines in "A Town Like Alice". Inter-racial marriage was looked down on and they were definitely viewed as second-class citizens - but one has to read the past written by people at the time, or it becomes easy to forget just how easy it is to fall into the trap of thinking it never really happened.
