I find the costume aspect that always falls flat for me in historical dramas is the men's hairstyles.

They're totally wrong, to the extent that I have difficulty seeing them as historical characters.

Plus, they always slant the costumes heavily toward modern styles. You'll be lucky to see a ruff, or a lace collar on a man, and as for hose and a shapely calf....
