That's really interesting, comparing them to Tolkien's Orcs. From what I remember they're also the most immobile-looking of the aliens (could be wrong!) -- just compare how expressive Pilot is, and he's a puppet. The Scarrans seem to be deliberately reminiscent of reptilian predators a la the raptors in Jurassic Park.
