And they're a lot on the story, too. That's another thing between the two takes; the only women who show up in Mank are confined to supporting the men emotionally (Marion Davies is a bit of an exception, in that she does want a career, but she's still primarily there for the Hearst connection). Hedda and Louella are powers in their own right (vicious ones, but they're not presented as caricatures but as three dimensional people, like everyone else, and Fiona Shaw & Brenda Blethyn are enjoying themselves tremendously. They're also not in the story as a part of Hollywood set decoration, but because they do play a part in it - Hedda Hopper got the scoop that Citizen Kane was, in fact, recognizably based on Hearst, Louella Parsons was instrumental in threatening the various studio heads on Hearst's behalf into making an effort to kill Citizen Kane. This is in great contrast to how Mank tries to cram in as many cameos as it can regardless whether these peopole are actually important to the story it tries to tell.
