re: which cut - googling reviews, it seems one can recognize the final cut instantly by the movie opening with the battle of Gaugemala, then going back to Alexander's childhood etc., which it definitely does not in the theatrical cut which I saw. (Which starts with Old Ptolemy, then Alexander's childhood and youth, then the jump to Gaugemala, with the death of Philip only coming much later, which it comes in all the versions according to the reviews.
Btw, since I see from your review you liked the rl existence of Baldwin the Leper King - he's a key figure in Sharon Penman's last novel, "The Land Beyond the Sea", as is the rl character whom Orlando Bloom plays, who wasn't a French blacksmith but an Outremer noble married not to Sybilla but to Baldwin's stepmother.
