it seems one can recognize the final cut instantly by the movie opening with the battle of Gaugemala, then going back to Alexander's childhood etc., which it definitely does not in the theatrical cut which I saw.
I think we must have seen the intermediary director's cut, since I remember that it was not the theatrical cut, but neither the final nor the "ultimate" cut were available in 2007. I don't think it helped much. At least it introduced me to Francisco Bosch, whom I liked so much I stole years later for a photoset.
Btw, since I see from your review you liked the rl existence of Baldwin the Leper King - he's a key figure in Sharon Penman's last novel, "The Land Beyond the Sea"
