LOL, I remember a gifted fandom cartoonist who back in the original broadcast day sketched a cartoon which had a gleeful Lennier observing “just wait till Delenn introduces ‘Minbari Ritual No. 1114’, then our revenge on Starkiller will be complete!’
Being less gifted in the cartoon department, I still suspect Delenn of inventing at least half of these rituals to indulge herself, and to test Sheridan’s gullibility. Though obviously not this one, given all the participants necessary.
More seriously, I suspect JMS felt uncomfortable with writing straightforward romance and fulfilling tropes like “leading man and leading lady have first time sex in a very special episode” and went out of his way to avoid this by making their first time sex actually a comic relief subplot in an episode that is mainly about something else.
I will say that Sheridan isn’t the person of the opposite gender I think Delenn has her most interesting relationship with and with whom I would ship her, were I so inclined. Luckily, that person is going to show up again soon. And their dynamic is, err, not one where the other party is cool with Delenn’s tendency not to tell people things.
Re: Marcus Cole, travelling companion: I hear you. I would pointedly hum a certain song from Chicago meant as a warning.
