I liked ep 3 better in terms of plot and pacing, but I really loved the contrast of the duels -- one between two powerful but troubled young proteges (maybe I'm projecting, but Shin seems less batshit and more "WTF??" as the show has gone on), and one between two REALLY powerful experienced skilled masters who both know about holding back and waiting and not undermining yourself with a first strike out of emotion. Ahsoka's "Sabine!" was pretty heartbreaking, and that was a great moment between Sabine and Baylan when she was hesitating so much over handing over the map. T sided with Ahsoka, but I read a great comment on the Tor.com recap to the effect of, but in the SW verse there's a lot of value placed on not giving up on your friends and doing rash things to rescue them (looking at YOU, Luke Skywalker)....and also, as I pointed out to T, if nobody is going after Ezra and/or Thrawn, Sabine and Ahsoka and Baylan and Shin can all just sit around and play cards. Which might make for a fun fanfic, lol.
I saw lots of complains that the guy in the rusty-looking armour wasn't 1) Ezra 2) someone "important" but then apparently he's a resurrected body and it's a space witch thing? Shin looked kinda horrified, maybe at that, as well as how fast Ahsoka took him down. Come to think of it that pinwheel effect was sort of flashy but easily gotten around by someone really experienced -- just like if there wasn't a real consciousness in there. LOVED Sabine faking out Shin, Shin gloating "You have no power," and Sabine getting her with her special Mando armour. I'm really hoping they somehow team up I'm such a sucker for that Faith/Buffy dynamic, lol.
All the "AWW Anakin Force Ghost!" feeling for me was undermined by the three chords from the "Vader theme" (Imperial March). THANKS, MUSIC DEPARTMENT. Does Ahsoka know Anakin was Vader? Does she know Luke redeemed Vader at the last minute? Does she just think he died and this is the first time she's seeing him since then? No idea! I guess that's why I will tune in next week. I'm hoping it's not some kind of nasty space witch trick, that would seem unfair. I do hope we get a hug.
