As much as would love them to meet Jurati's borg and so on. S2 only brings up them to Pic S1 flashbacks. To get them in the same timeframe as Picard proper involves a 15 year time jump which with kid characters would completely change them. (unless time travel was used)

Stranding them off in another quadrant though would be awesome. I do love the idea of Dal meeting Pel.

Honestly, they can do whatever they want with a 3rd season as long as they get one. (which given lack of news seems sadly unlikely)
