January Meme: Star Trek: Prodigy - What should a 3rd season be like?
Well, considering one of the delightful things about seasons 1 and 2 was that they kept surprising me in a good way, I feel that I shouldn't really make predictions or requests, because I want the show to keep doing that, if there is a third season. For example, the first season had something of a Farscape vibe (while being utterly Trek), whereas the second season had something of a Doctor Who vibe (dito), and if the show creators want to tackle The Expanse next, I'd be all for it, but equally if they don't and do something very different entirely.
All this being said, here are some ideas and wishes:
- Given Star Trek: Prodigy so far has kept a great balance between its own original characters and the "old" characters from previous ST shows, I really want them to continue with this, i.e. on the one hand let this be the story of the kids but otoh also let those old characters who do show up have meaning for the story, not just be fanservice cameos
- we've had not many nods towards DS9 in any of the subsequent shows (some, but not many), so I would be delighted if Our Heroes end up in the Gamma Quadrant next and we learn through them some of what has happened there since DS9 ended (what has become of the Founders? Is Murf related to them? Has someone else become the new power in the Dominion?); if they get stranded there for a while, it offers the perfect excuse as to why they are not involved in any of the Picard S3 events
- speaking of the Gamma Quadrant; last we heard of her, Pel (first female Ferengi we saw, in the episode which was arip-off homage to Yentl) was going there, and she'd be a good character to bring back, not just because I like Pel but because Dal was raised by Nandi (i.e. a Ferengi), and finding out what she did was not a little heartbreaking for him in s1, so meeting Pel - who is a Ferengi loving her profit, but very different from Nandi - could make for some excellent character drama
- other people for our gang to run into: the evolved Borg led by Jurati; there were many things about s3 of Picard that pissed me off, but few things as much as the complete ignoring of s2 of Picard and its most interesting storyline. ST: Prodigy has already proven with Wesley Crusher what they can do with something Picard only used in a cameo (i.e. Wesley as a Traveller), so I think they might do very well with the Jurati-Queen-Hybrid (if they're all stranded in the Gamma Quadrant, it again would make at least some of the stuff from Picard s3 a bit more endurable)
- Again, these are just some ideas, but even if none of that happens: my main wish is for the show to continue its great level of storytelling.

Oh yes! S3 seems to have been love it or hate it. As I was never a massive TNG fan, it was nice to see the characters back, but not at the price of ditching everything else in Picard..
