Alias fanfiction: The Band (Arvin Sloane, Jack Bristow, gen)

The snowrain changed to snow, heavy snow, which meant no more skiing, and we returned to real life today. Next weekend is supposed to be sunny (but cold!) again, though, and I'll have another chance to go to Bad Wiessee then. In meantime, work and work-related travelling this week.

Also fanfiction. After some computer gremlin short-circuited [livejournal.com profile] andrastewhite's laptop (again), which meant she can't beta my [livejournal.com profile] spy_santa story, I shamelessly threw myself at the mercy of [livejournal.com profile] kathyh who came through like she always does. (I'm tempted to expect her to go Darth H any time now; that much friendliness, helpfulness and reliability is spooky!)

So, here is my entry for [livejournal.com profile] spy_santa. The request was for some backstory for my beloved First Generation spies, Arvin Sloane and Jack Bristow. Hm, I wonder why I got this task? *g*

No spoilers beyond season 3's Breaking Point, specifically the Chile reference in same.

Yes, that is another reason for me liking it. Also Sydney's plot with the "journalist" because though in retrospect it's obvious, he's a good enough actor, and though she is more callous than in season 1, she can't NOT reat to his pain.

Lauren: this is one of the last eps where she has her original characterisation, before the grand retcon of season 3 happens and poor Melissa George has to wear lots of mascara. More about that once you get there. Wish they'd stuck to what we see here.

i really liked the observation that they knew Syd was more vulnerable to empathetic suffering than physical pain -- and I thought they were using the cellmate for SOMETHING but didn't call that it was going in that direction.

I've got a vague idea of what the retcon entails, but if it's what I think it is, i'm not sure there's any way to reconcile it with her behavior in these shows. the moment i decided I liked her was when she and Sydney got pulled into the car chase, and Syd kept ragging on her about not being field rated, but instead of falling apart Lauren hung in there -- and not only that, she smiled. Like she was secretly getting off on the chase, and being a field agent, and doing all the stuff the others did that she only heard about. I've got no idea if that was even the intention of the scene, but the look on MG's face in that scene made me love her a little *g*
