I think some of it doesn't quite come off to a modern audience. When we did this play in high school, everybody was very clear on Stella should leave Stanley. But to my mom it wasn't clear at all. (However, I will say that this isn't what everyone actually did, when faced with these questions in real life.)

I love the quotes from Vivien Leigh. She always strikes me as the more dominant personality in that relationship!

The strange thing about reading Williams in high school in the south is that none of it strikes anyone as strange or pathological. It's real life.
