Yes, they should have. Otoh, I can understand why everyone chickened out of telling them. (There's an inherent irony here, too, with Wesley driven to break-ins and artifact smashings by the idea Angel lied to him two episodes before, but he finds it far easier himself to lie to the Burkles then to say what happened.)
