George Remembered

It's nine years this day since George Harrison died, so, in the spirit of celebrating his life, some clips to demonstrate his fabulousness. Hopefully also including stuff you're not so familiar with.

To start early on, here's a cover of the Goffin/King song Don't Ever Change the Beatles did live for the BBC; George sings lead, Paul harmony.

For all the late 60s resentment over the little brother treatment and the micro management and the siding with John in the breakup (until the No-Stagesharing-with-Yoko-at-the-Bangladesh-Concert, anyway), it's evident there was a lot of affection between George and Paul as well. Check out this short clip of them goofing around while John is singing Twist and Shout:

And also these drawings they were dared to do of each other, which manage to make fun of each other's characteristics - George's glower and eyebrows, Paul's ever present ciggie and eyelashes - and at the same time convey fondness:

Of George's Beatles-era compositions, I'll skip Something this time and go for Here Comes The Sun. As covered by Bon Jovi in 2001, with a lot of great George photos in the background:

In the 70s, George was sued for plagiarism over his song My Sweet Lord. This inspired him to come up with a satirical song describing his court experience, This Song. Sadly, YouTube won't let me embed the original promo which is absolutely hilarious and proves why George and Monty Python were made for each youther, but I can at least link it - here it is. I can, however, embed a 1977 tv concert rendering of said song. Check out George in his 70s perm glory. Seriously, one day I must conduct a poll as to whose 1970s style fashion offense was worst - Paul with his mullet, George with the perm, John in his gaudy Grammy appearance of 1976 look (which at least is better than the late 1969 heroin look, but...) or - nah, Ringo just returned to his pre-Beatles origin with the beard and earring, and anyway, it suits him.

From 70s George to 80s George: When We Was Fab is an amused and non-bitter look back, complete with Ringo appearance:

Interview clip time. Here's George at his most Georgian dead-pan about his friendships with Eric Clapton ("we share a wife") and Ringo:

How George financed Life of Brian:

More George and Monty Python. Here he is in Eric Idle's 1975 Rutland Weekend Television Show (more fun is made of the My Sweet Lord/Plagiarism affair):

And lastly, to go back to the start again, George's big scene from A Hard Day's Night:
