A profile of Claude Lanzman, apropos his recently published memoirs. Fascinating.

[personal profile] itsnotmymind pointed me towards this article: One town's war on gay teens. Gutwrenching and infuriating to read, very compellingly written.

And hooray for the internet: "8", a play written by Dustin Lance Black (scriptwriter for Milk and J.Edgar) and directed by Rob Reiner, featuring an all-star cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Martin Sheen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jane Lynch, Kevin Bacon, Matt Bomer and others, is online. It is a powerful account of the case filed by the American Federation for Equal Rights (AFER ) in the U.S. District Court in 2010 to overturn Proposition 8, a constitutional amendment that eliminated the rights of same-sex couples to marry in the state of California. Framed around the trial's historic closing arguments in June 2010, 8 provides an intimate look what unfolded when the issue of same-sex marriage was on trial.

AS the mother of a trans child, I'm sometimes terrified for her safety. Thank God we live in England where (although the environment isn't perfect), things are a lot better than in the USA. I'm still pleased by how supportive the people at work were when she changed. and her friends were great about it.

But even she sometimes gets abuse shouted at her by strangers.
