I hadn't heard, but it sounds plausible to me, yes. And if so, I'm even more relieved TPTB reconsidered!

ETA: Since marathoning The Wire, I've seen Kima's actress again - she has a recurring guest role in season 2, 3 and 4 of Star Trek: Discovery - and was very glad to.
