Meme from Astro

Name 10 characters without looking at the questions, then answer for them.

Characters:

1. Abigail Brand (first Astonishing X-Men, currently Marvelverse at large)
2. Jo Grant (Doctor Who)
3. Benjamin Linus (Lost)
4. David Fisher (Six Feet Under)
5. Kai Winn (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
6. Londo Mollari (Babylon 5)
7. Henry Hellrung (The Order, Iron Man)
8. Alex Drake (Ashes to Ashes)
9. Maria LaGuerta (Dexter)
10. Owen Harper (Torchwood)

--If 1 (Abigail Brand) and 7 (Henry Hellrung) had a baby and it was born with superpowers, what would they be? And how would the parents cope?

Leaving aside Agent Brand is currently affiliated with the other Henry in the Marvelverse and besides seems to be a xenophiliac (which would make Henry H. too human-looking for her), the superpowers part is actually the easiest bit. Brand can radiate lethal heat if she wants, hence the surname, due to her half-alien nature. Henry's artificial superpowers probably don't apply anymore - the soma process which gave the members of the Order their superpowers is declared to last only for a year, normal human nature can't handle the artificial powers any longer, I checked the early Order issues for fanfic research recently - but who knows, his DNA could have been altered by that year. It happens, in the Marvelverse. So maybe the kid would have some combination power - heat-plus-human-battery? The most likely scenario for the whole thing to happen is that they both get temporarily captured by a supervillain who extracts both their DNA to grow an offspring in a test tube for the evil purpose of the day. As to how they would cope - I imagine Abby breaks them out (she's good at that) and leaves the baby-raising to Henry. Her sound reasoning being that he's a nice, caring person, and she is not. Though she would show up on weekends and later to train the kid in how to handle superheat and feel alternately resentful, guilty and a little bit intrigued by being made a mother against her will. Meanwhile, Henry would adjust to single fatherhood but not to reporters completely disbelieving the "grown in a test tube" story (instead, the hunt is on as to who of the many women he and Tony Stark slept with in their threesome days could be the mother). There would be some memorable rants from the usual polite Henry when he takes the baby out to play and finds the paparazzi there.

--If 3 (Benjamin Linus) gave 9 (Maria LaGuerta) a hippopotamus, what would happen next?

Knowing Ben, it would be part of an incredibly complicated and screwed up mind game. Still, Maria has dealt with heads of dead people; a hippopotamus would get him a raised eyebrow and a call to the Miami zoo. Then she'd decide she can hold him for illegal obtainment of an endangered species (I don't think hippopotami are, but she'd claim they were) and go one on one with him in an MYPD interrogation room, because her cop instinct would tell her clearly Mr. Linus is up to something.

--If you had to send two of these characters on a blind date, who would you send, and how would it go?

David Fisher and Henry Hellrung, no question about it. Probably in early s2 in the Six Feet Under timeline, when David is out but not back together with Keith. They both live in Los Angeles; for Henry the timeline would probably have to be after his acting career ended and before he starts leading the Order, i.e. during the AA spokesperson years. As for how it would go, pretty well, I should imagine. David would probably recognize Henry (he's good with films and tv shows) at some point, but they'd be more likely to chat about old movies than about Henry's own ouevre. David would painfully try to avoid mentioning he's an undertaker so inevitably a client of his would show up in the restaurant their blind date takes place. Henry wouldn't quite see what the problem is. There'd probably be a one night stand and they might remain in contact, but they wouldn't actually have an affair, due to both secretely hankering for other people.

--Which Doctor would be most likely to take on 2 (Jo Grant) and 6 (Londo Mollari) as companions? How would that go?

Okay, the fact Jo actually was a companion makes this a bit tricky to answer. Also that Three would not take Londo as a companion. Though he'd find him intriguing, but they proably would end up arguing half way through their first conversation. Seven is the Doctor who'd have the most interesting conversations with Londo, but Seven would not travel with Jo, save for a short nostalgic visit at the max. Clearly, then the answer must be Ten in his post-Water-of-Mars state when he's decided to break the rules and battle time, therefore will save Londo from his tragic fate, no matter what history dictates; just before he can leave, he comes across Jo (who is around 60 in her own timeline) by accident and can't resist outing himself and going for a hug. Jo, however, can immediately see something is seriously wrong with the Doctor and with the help of the TARDIS - who has arranged this meeting - smuggles herself on board, so she's around when the Doctor arrives shortly before Coming of Shadows to stop Londo from making a certain fatal decision...

--What is 4's (David's) secret shame?

Err, depending from which period in his life you're talking about, what isn't? This is David Fisher. Even at his happiest, he's bound to have something he's ashamed for, and he went through more than a decade in the closet first. If we're talking about David post-s5: the fact he's glad all of Keith's ideas about biological fatherhood for one of them didn't hatch out, and they went the adoption road instead. Same with Keith's idea of asking Claire for genetic contribution, and for the same reason. David thinks there's something inherently screwed-up in all the Fishers, and he'd rather have children who are free of that genetic heritage, thanks.

--5 (Kai Winn) comes down with a mysterious disease and is sent to Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital for diagnosis. What happens?

House recognizes a Machiavellian church politician when he sees one and is at his most acerbic. Winn, who ended up in Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital directly from the fire caves in the DS9 finale, thinks this is all some scenario by the Pagh Wraiths or the Prophets, and at this point she doesn't care much which ones anymore. She finally has the chance to talk to her gods, and there is a lot pent-up rage. When she figures out she's actually in Earth's past, she wonders whether she could prevent Sisko's birth to retrospectively force the Prophets to make her their Emissary and starts to scheme, but outwardly, she's all mildness, which after her earlier outburst makes the team (but not House) think the sudden mood swing is one of her symptoms. At some point, the words "my child" are spoken, most probably towards House after he completely eviscarated her verbally.

--If 10 (Owen Harper) has to throw 8 (Alex Drake) a birthday party and invite all the others, where would the party be held? What would be the decorations, refreshments, games, and/or party favors? Would it be a birthday 8 (Alex) would remember fondly?

...and now I'm wondering about a Torchwood AU in which Alex instead of Gwen is the cop who gets recruited into Torchwood. (While Gwen ends up in the early 80s with Gene Hunt & Co.) God knows, the team in general and Owen in particular could have used a psychologist. The birthday party would be part of his attempt to hit on Alex. As to what everyone else is doing there, when in doubt, blame the Rift. He wouldn't have invited them, but they'd have shown up anyway due to said rift activity, thereby cutting Owen's attempt at a dinner a deux short. As to decorations etc., while he pulled out all the stops for Diane, I don't think he would have for a co-worker and would probably just have offered pizza and wine, and Alex originally only said yes because she correctly deduced he needed therapy and hoped to bring that up in a more stress-free environment than the Hub. And yes, she'd have remembered it. Especially the part where Ben Linus tried to use the Rift to get back to the Island and released the Weevils to keep the team distracted, and the part where Owen got his arm broken by Abigail Brand. Meanwhile, Londo drank up all the wine, and Alex herself got into arguments with LaGuerta about modern policing, department politics and how to handle suicides of your team members.

--For what are 3 (Ben) and 4 (David) most likely to get arrested together?

Ben only gets arrested whe he wants to get arrested, so undoubtedly it would be part of another scheme. It's because he needed an undertaker utterly willing to do his bidding re: Locke and not to ask any questions. David was his first choice, and Ben organized the arrest for soliciting so David would be properly grateful once Ben's lawyer got them out of prison. Unfortunately, he had underestimated David's professionalism and how serious David takes doing right by the dead, especially after the incident with the carnapper in s4. Concluding David was more trouble than the effort was worth, Ben went to another Los Angeles undertaker instead.

--Describe 2's (Jo's) childhood imaginary friend.

A groovy talking walrus, I say.

--Which of the others is 7 (Henry Hellrung) most likely to choose to take to a deserted island for a year? How does that person feel about being chosen?

I'm assuming this isn't during Order days because Henry's artificial superpowers include flight, making the point of a deserted island moot. He wouldn't take David, despite their nice blind date. Henry is too experienced with people not to see David and deserted islands would not doing each other any favours. If he knew everybody's backstories, he'd take his chances with Ben. Sure, Ben is a sociopathic mastermind, but he has experience with these type of situation which you can hardly beat. If he doesn't know (and therefore has to judge on first appearances), then he'd probably go with either Alex, Maria or Abigail, because on deserted islands it pays off to have a tough woman on your side who can do the hunting, killing animals and beating up possible bad guys. (Remember, pre-Order Henry as an actor and former actor would not have experience in any of these things.) Two of the three would probably slap him early on (can't see any of them keen on a year on a deserted island). Henry's a nice guy, so Maria LaGuerta and Alex Drake would make their peace with him after that and get to the task of leaving the island. At some point, there could be sex involved. Abigail Brand, on the other hand, would probably go for something more violent than a slap for wasting her time like this, there wouldn't be sex, but of all of them, she'd be able to find a way off the island quickest. Ben? If this was the island, Ben would be in heaven and perhaps even grateful enough to make Henry into a permanent minion instead of canon fodder. If it was just an island, he'd still be in a good mood because of the similarities to home sweet home, and entertain himself by messing with Henry's mind on a grand scale during their year together.

--9 (Maria LaGuerta) and 6 (Londo Mollari) have just been recruited to work for a secret organization. What kind of secret organization is it? Do they do their best work, or subvert the organization from the inside?

Oh dear. Clearly, the Time Agency has gotten wind of the Doctor's breakdown and ensuing messing with history, and to counteract has recruited a policewoman from the 21st century with some political savvy, as her first task is to persuade Londo to follow history's path after all. She ends up allied with him instead because meeting John Hart has convinced her the Time Agency is worse than an out of control Doctor if it employs these types, and she needs an ally while subverting the organization from the inside. Londo isn't sure how all these crazy time travellers will benefit Centauri Prime, but he's sure he can work something out, and at any rate, LaGuerta creeps him less out than Morden.

--Suppose 10 (Kai Winn) and 5 (Owen Harper) have been pen pals for years; what happens when they finally meet?

They're mutually appalled. Owen's mother issues raise their heads with a vengeance, and Winn is horrified that she has opened her soul to yet another bastard who has been masquarading himself as a sensitive man.

--If 8 (Alex Drake) gives 1 (Abigail Brand) a makeover, how will that go?

"Look," Alex said, "I'm not saying the shoulder pads are a must, but there is a lot more you could do with your hair than just the pony tail all the time."
Brand studied the other woman's perm and tried to decide whether exchanging Sydren for a human psychologist was really worth a fate worse than death.
