X-Men rec, update journal announced

"Normal", by [livejournal.com profile] penknife, is a fabulous X-Men story about so many things - the question of just what you're willing to do to be able and live like the majority does, what "normal" means anyway, what kind of decision you make for your children, and not least of all Scott Summers, aka Cyclops. Count me into yet another tiny minority - the one who actually thinks Scott is more interesting than Logan, Hugh Jackman's hotness notwithstanding. (Of course, both of them are nothing when compared to Magneto as played by Ian McKellen and Xavier as played by Patrick Stewart.*g*) I really hope they're going to give him more scenes in X3, especially since X3 will obviously deal with the Dark Phoenix plotline, which has absolutely nothing to do with Wolverine.

The recent Sondheim reviews by [livejournal.com profile] melymbrosia made me madly jealous because I so want to be in New York now and see both Sweeney Todd and Assassins on stage. An irreverent aside: now some musicals have caused fanfiction - Phantom of the Opera and Les Miz, in particular. Where is the Sondheim fanfic? The Sweeney/Ms Lovett het and the John Wilkes Booth/Lee Harvey Oswald slash?

In other news, in an attempt to avoid turning this journal into a constant squeeing over [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse, I thankfully threw myself into the waiting arms of [livejournal.com profile] sabine101 who had just started an update journal for her t_m activities and offered to share. So, if anyone is curious what the newest developments are, check them out here.

Well, a person has do eat lunch even if she's not a hobbit...

rushing of to answer.

I love Cyclops more than Wolverine Myself, but have little hope for X3 to be better as Brian Singer has been quoted as saying Wolverine is the star of the X-Men movies... But One can hope.

And that is a great story by penknife.

Brain implodes at the idea of Sondheimfic

Thats a cool summation-- it would be cool to find a sire where the whole of the story so far was summarrized... heh

You and me both. I've seen Sweeney Todd a couple of times, but I've never seen Assassins. I'm not sure I'd want to read Sweeney/Mrs Lovett het *g*. How about some femslash with Cinderella/Little Red Riding Hood from Into the Woods?

By all means, let's have femmeslash. And of course the two slaves from A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum is pratically canon!

One can always hope.

As for summaries, well, the update journals are there to provide just those. In addition to [livejournal.com profile] inbigtrouble, no shared by the G'Kar, Londo and Vir muns, you could look up [livejournal.com profile] ranger_i for Anna and Galen, and [livejournal.com profile] g_shadowslayer for Garibaldi and the Shadows.

Check out G'Kar's latest journal entry to see how the rescue mission went.*g*

Pseudolus and Hysterium? Oh, yeah. Have you seen the filmed version with Zero Mostel? Love it to bits, just watched it Monday night.

[identity profile] selenak.livejournal.com 2004-04-08 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but I saw it on stage twice. I stayed away from the filmed version since I heard somewhere that both Buster Keaton fans and Stephen Sondheim hate it, a fatal combination. Will reconsider, though, if you approve.

I don't know about the reactions of Keaton or Sondheim fans. Never read any reviews. The filmed version is what I'm familiar with, although I've seen our local college perform Forum a year or so ago. They used different lyrics in places.

The transition from stage to film or vice-versa doesn't always work; since I saw Forum as a movie first, it colors my perception of the stage play. So your tastes and mine may differ extremely. It's for you to judge.

Sondheim femslash

[identity profile] petronelle.livejournal.com 2004-04-11 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I found your journal through a series of random clicks.

I've written Mrs. Lovett/Lucy (http://romantic.frenchboys.net/petra/ffpenny.html), Follies femslash (http://romantic.frenchboys.net/petra/ffwaiting.html), and Into the Woods meta/Goddess Trinity blathering (http://romantic.frenchboys.net/petra/fftrinity.html).

Also Singin' in the Rain femslash (http://romantic.frenchboys.net/petra/srsotto.html), among other things. And if what you really want is fanfiction based on obscure musicals, I have a few pieces based on William Finn's Marvin Trilogy. Be warned, though: I have trouble sustaining such things for more than a drabble; most of my long stuff is Les Misérables, although not at all based on the musical.
