selenakDay 10 - A show you thought you wouldn't like but ended up loving
At some mysterious point in the late 90s but definitely pre 9/11, when I was still hip deep in Highlander fandom, I began to hear, via crossovers and fannish chatter, more about more about a show with a silly, silly name. I mean: Buffy the Vampire Slayer - really? And a teenage vampire hunter - what a hokey premise. Plus I really wasn't interested in a show about high school teenagers. Hadn't I been annoyed by Duncan MacLeod's teenage sidekick, Richie, until he'd grown up a bit? No teenagers. As for the vampires, they would probably be horribly camp, judging by the title. No, I couldn't imagine why I should like this show.
....yeah. A big shout out to several Highlander companions of old who kept raving about BTVS so long that when it began to be broadcast on German tv, I started to watch. Especially tokathyh, who when I wasn't content to wait for the dubbed versions anymore recorded the originals when they were shown on British tv for me and sent tapes. (Yes, this was when you still sent TAPES not CDs.) Later there were, um, other options, but I think I still have those s4 of BTVS/s1 of AtS tapes somewhere.
