The Musketeers 2.04
Feb. 3rd, 2015 01:46 pmScattered observations due to continued sickness.
They're really playing the Anne-the-Spaniard card this season, and in a good way. (I.e. Anne trying to be a good queen of France but also afflicted when her countremen are killed.) Also I love her doing something with her queenship instead of just going for marital angst due to the current Louis/Milady affair. Love the continuing friendship with Constance, too.
Rochefort as a solely evil McEvil villain really is no replacement for the Cardinal, I feel let down in my hopes the show might make him into someone more ambigous. Otoh him getting rid of the Spanish ambassador and not even pretending to work for Spain anymore did make sense.
However I don't buy Milady caving so easily to blackmail - they should should have given him better blackmail material than a list of past misdeeds, at least, couldn't she always claim slander otherwise? Methinks the main purpose of that was to give Milady a reason to hate Rochefort, which in turn looks like the preparation for an otherwise unbelievable Milady & Musketeers alliance. (My current guess anyway.)
I'm glad they haven't forgotten Porthos' arc, but that jump from "General de Foix left me a legacy" to "omg, de Foix and Treville totally knew my dad!" was a bit too quick for me.
Aramis, like the rest of the gang, sucks at being a spy. Otoh life with Athos clearly prepared him for spotting drug addicts easily.
So, Marguerite survived and still has a job instead of languishing in a cell somewhere for Constance's Dauphin-napping. That's good to know, but otoh it means she's now getting blackmailed by Rochefort because of her liason with Aramis who in turn is simply using her for access to the kid; poor Marguerite.
De Treville getting fired: never let it be said the show isn't willing to shake up the status quo.
Emilie the not!Joan of Arc: was sympathetic. Mind you, the actual peasant movements in the 17th century were less "let's march on Spain" and more "let's get food to keep us from starving" and/or "let's march on Paris", but hey.

Date: 2015-02-03 06:43 pm (UTC)I kind of thought that Milady sort of wanted to get back into stabbing, due to being bored with the king's mistress gig, but mostly I want her to kill Rochefort very dead, asap. And for Constance and Marguerite to help, and Treville to cover it up.
Friggen sports though. I can't believe it's going to be another fortnight break AGAIN.
I hope your flu gets better soon. That sounds terrible.

Though, "point people in the direction of an enemy" has often worked as an attempt to distract them from daily woes. Loved her so much, though. Hope she gets a happier ending than just going back to her little town. (I said to Mucca that my new headcanon is "undercover as a male Musketeer.")
