Curses, foiled again...
Sep. 19th, 2004 05:54 pm...Sort of. As several more family birthdays approach, including my own (September 27th), I'm with the Aged Parents once more, and guess what, the hotel in Garmisch didn't hate my laptop, my t-online software is damaged. Meaning I can only go online via the 'rents computer, meaning no
theatrical_muse and other time consuming stuff.
On the bright side of things, I used the time to write my assignment for the Londothon and already got my beta back by
kathyh. Now for working in the corrections...
Also: I'm looking forward to purchasing the OT tomorrow. Will try to avoid reviews for fear of the inevitable Lucas and prequel bashing, though. If I don't read one more whine about how someone's childhood got ruined by the Special Editions & prequels, I'd do the dance of joy in public.
Otoh, keeping away from the media also might rob me of intriguing stuff like the Lucas quote from a new interview which
lazypadawan provided:
"The controversy is going to be that people expect some horrible, horrific thing to happen to [Anakin] that caused him to [become Darth Vader]. It's much subtler. It's something that everybody faces--when you're looking at yourself, you can see your good and your bad, and say, "Is this a selfish choice or is this a compassionate choice? And once I get something, what would I do to keep from losing it? Would I make a pact with the devil to keep it?"

Date: 2004-09-19 12:36 pm (UTC)That is sounding to me like GL is going for the plot idea I've been dreading since Clones - Anakin turns to the Dark Side because Luke and Leia will be killed if he doesn't. I suppose B5 did something a little similar with Londo at the end, but he didn't go all out evil as far as I know (not having read the Centauri novels), and GL would handle it much more sentimentally.

Date: 2004-09-19 10:37 pm (UTC)Londo is a different case. He doesn't go evil at all since going evil would assume the exertion of free will, and he sacrifices his to save the Centauri in Fall of Centauri Prime, an act which is actually redemptive (volunteering for nth years of hell gets my vote for fulfillment of the "you must surrender to your greatest fear, knowing it will destroy you" prophecy about Londo's last chance).

This being said: in my ideal SW movie, George would provide the treatment and storyline and would co-direct with Steven Spielberg, while the script would be entirely written by Joss Whedon. This not being an ideal world, I take what I get, occasional clunky lines and all - they sort of belong to the SW charm.
