Yeah, I really think four seasons of Spartacus must have skewered good old DeKnight's perspective on levels of violence. Re: The Wire, but I distinctly remember there were various beating up scenes as well.
You're right re: nudity and sex, btw. No female nudity at all through the show, and male nudity is limited to Matt's upper chest when he's getting stitched up etc. Oh, and one time Foggy's upper chest the morning after. And no sex scenes; sexual activity solely gets referred to verbally. I hadn't made the Disney connection as an explanation! But that's probably the reason.
