I’ve heard of that Macbeth, and hope to get around to seeing a filmed copy someday. I saw the Welles, once, and mainly recall the rock-bottom budget, but also the chill I felt when the witches raised those Y-shaped sticks and said as one, “Hail.”
Macbeth and Lady M having incredible chemistry (that first kiss! I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an intense sexual spark between two actors in these roles, and of course it makes the loss of each other into madness and/or nihilistic emptiness in the second half all the more glaring) and both being played by actors of equal charisma.
Reading this, I thought “like the leads in Gun Crazy or The Postman always Rings Twice who decide to go bad together.” Then I thought, well *of course* the MacBeths are a noir B-movie couple. Not Double Indemnity, though.
