Haven't read (or written) any reviews, regrettably. McKellen was predictably good, though I am not sure about directing - I don't know what the director wanted to say besides "McKellen wants to play Lear again, yay". He makes me think about how an actor is like a fine physical instrument (for some reason I found the scenes with knights while staying at Goneril's especially memorable - I never paid them much attention before, but they make an interesting transition between king in a fit of temper and mad Lear)

A female Kent made for interesting dynamics - both turning into Caius and the relationship with Lear. Regan and Cornwall sold me on true sadistic love so much that I was kind of startled to see Regan turn her attention towards Edmund (maybe a hint of sisters fighting for their toys?)
