I have honestly forgotten most of Farscape, but this is one of the episodes that I remember -- like you, when I watched this I'd only been familiar with "change the past to fix things that went awry" kind of TV time-plot and this just... broke my heart and stomped on the pieces. The part I remember most vividly is how John *promises* the nurse that it will all be okay, that it will all be fixed, and he's promising himself as well -- and then it's not okay at all :(
