I have some of the weird barebones DVDs that came out very early on, like when some of the shows were still on the air, of X-Files and B5 and Farscape and others, and the difference between just shoving them onto a disc and the later bells-and-whistles-squared multiple box sets put out by marketing is kinda wild. You could probably pinpoint when sff fandom started getting mainstream by the ability to get good box sets.

(I have some of the X-Files videotapes. The ones with two eps to a cassette that cost like twenty? bucks at the time when that was money!)
