Thank you for all the thoughts on the Brontës. I haven't been following any of these fictionalized accounts of their lives, so I'm responding purely to your post here, but I totally agree the idea that you have to have experienced romantic passion in real life to know it/write about it is absurd and pernicious. I think taking away Emily's apparently un-romantically attached life robs all those people who identify with her and have few role models (including myself over much of my life) of one of our important role models for just living differently.
