You‘re very welcome! And ha, dito, I‘d love to read either or rather both. :) Mind you, the biggest problem in any Irene/Charlemagne AU is geographical - who‘d go to whom? I can‘t see Irene leave Constantinople for the year it would take to go to Aachen, or even Northern Italy or wherever Charlemagne would be, convince him, get what she wants and go back. There‘s just too much danger of a coup happening while she‘s absent. And I don‘t think Charlemagne would leave his own power base for a year to go to Constantinople, either. The Saxons, for starters, are bound to take the opportunity for another fight for freedom/uprising. Of course, he could leave his troops behind, but then he‘d be without soldiers and entirely in Irene‘s power, and I can‘t imagine him doing that.
Hmmm…. Both of them meeting in Rome sounds semi plausible? This is pre-schism, after all, and they‘re both close enough to their respective territories (after all, Byzantium still holds Sicily at this point, while Charlemagne has taken Northern Italy).
