Re: Kelly's danger on Mars vs shooting her into space, the point was that she had Chlamydia, which is a very real danger during pregnancy and childbirth if untreated, and the Russian doctor did not have the means to treat her whereas on the Phoenix, she could be treated. But like I said, my problem was more that the pregnancy was allowed to progress this far to begin with.

I feel like the earlier seasons did better at making the Soviets swing from sympathetic to evil and back. In S3, it feels like individual Russians can be good guys but it's The Evil Empire and always bad.

Hm, funnily enough I had the reverse impression, that s3 had individual Russians as ruthlessly bad but not anymore the Soviet Union per se.
