Which I'm somewhat optimistic will happen, because there's the precedence of the Margo/Sergei montage last season to fill us in on how their relationship progressed between seasons. And evidently the show is setting up some kind emotionally cathartic reveal scene about what exactly happened with Danny. (If they didn't want this, they could have just told us in the opening episode, like how we learn Jimmy testified against the other NASA truthers and therefore got "only" a twelve years long prison sentence; here, I fully expect this is it as far as Jimmy Stevens is concerned, he won't show up this season, though he might in the next if there is one. We know what exactly happened, that's it.
So, my current guess: once Danielle arrives on Mars, she and Ed will have flashbacks to those 15 months after the s3 season finale, featuring Kuznetsov becoming their rock and Danny eventually ending up dead, most likely by suicide.
