I'm really enjoying the season so far as well. I'm a big Tolkien fan, but I've been doing the same thing for this show that I have the Jackson movies which is remind myself it's an intentional AU and there's always fanfiction to fix any aspects I don't like.
It made my day that they managed to fit in a Shelob cameo (because the giant spider was definitely her).
I was disappointed about Bronwyn's death, but considering it was the actress's decision to leave the show to focus on other things, I can at least understand them taking that route. I feel like it would have been a much more difficult task to recast her, and the fact that it was orc poison that killed her does at least make sense from a Watsonian perspective. I do hope that they'll end up doing some interesting story-related things with it so that her presence is still felt even though she's gone.
Re: Disa, I saw it more the passing of time cooling her anger since months have passed since the last time we saw them back in S1, especially since it was clear Durin III regretted his hasty words but both he and his son were too stubborn to fix it.
