The Interregnum and then the early 14th and early 15th century were more or less blanks for me, too, as far as the German part is concerned. Leaving aside the very specific story of one specific German monastery. I did know about bit more about the Avignon papacy and the 100th Years War between England and France, but even when I was in Prague some years ago, I couldn‘t have told you how the dynasty Karl IV hailed from, the Luxemburgers, prevented the early Habsburgs from turning the HRE into a family enterprise onehundred and fifty years before Jakob Fugger enabled Max and grandson to do so. Or how the Luxemburg decline was connected to Jan Hus and the Council of Constanz. Plus the return of the Popes from Avignon to Rome involves really a lot of entertaining insanity and sensationalism, and even pirates. You‘ll have fun.
