A kiss is just a kiss...
Dec. 11th, 2003 07:08 amTalking about that while I dislike His Way in terms of continuity and character development, I can't help liking the kiss sent me pondering other memorable TV kisses. Leaving out movies entirely due to length (must learn to write short entries again, me), here are some of my favourites. Bear in mind that while some of them are romantic or erotic in nature, others...aren't.
Farscape
- John kissing Rygel in Family Ties; not just because they're my Farscape OTP but because of the preceding "I know exactly that you sold us out, but I love you anyway" speech
- Scorpius kissing Sikozu in We're so screwed: La Bomba; it's such an unexpectedly touching scene, with Scorpius, who is quite experienced with sexual passion of the S/M variety, visibly bewildered and stunned about the one emotion which was probably never shown to him, tenderness
Deep Space Nine
- as I said: admittedly O/K on the promenade in His Way is the most memorable
- Quark kissing Rom on the head in Call To Arms after Rom said he'd stay to take care of him
Blake's 7
- no question about it: the two Avon/Servalan kisses, one in Aftermath, one in Deathwatch; the chemistry between these two was only rivaled by the one between Blake and Avon, and each kiss was arguably more erotic than many a full-length love scene on other TV shows
BTVS
- Buffy kissing Angel in game face in What's my line I; arguably B/A at their best, bevor the guilt and the horror
- conversely, the "close your eyes" moment before she sends him to hell; it's one of the iconic images of the show and the act which emotionally scarred her forever
- the Cordy/Wesley kiss in Graduation Day: funniest kiss on TV ever!
- Buffy kissing Faith on the head in Graduation Day after having tried to kill her: perfect, silent expression of her conflicting emotions about Faith
- Buffy and Spike kissing at the end of Tabula Rasa: desperate, hungry, incredibly intense and incredibly sexy
- Spike kissing Anya in Entropy: the most adorable drunken h/c ever
- Tara kissing Willow while comforting her in The Body: a lover comforting another. Both happen to be female. No fuss. Yeah!
AtS
- Darla and Angel in Dear Boy: "There's my boy". I don't really have an OTP in the Jossverse, but these two come close. The kiss in question is as sexy as the B/S one from Tabula Rasa, and then some, given the centuries and the oedipal sire thing and...everything
- Darla and Lindsey in Darla; now I'm not as swooning over Lindsers as the rest of the fandom, but he does have his moments; in this case, though, it's My Darling Girl being manipulative, genuinenly lost, mindmessing and needy at the same time, and him obsessed with her and Angel simultanously, which makes for a memorable package
(Sidenote: I'd love to include Wesley, but his and Lilah's most memorable moments in terms of either emotions or sexiness weren't kisses. Nothing wrong with that, either. Just not the theme of this little meme.)
- Cordy and Connor in Apocalypse, Nowish: no, it's not sexy, nor is it meant to be. But it's memorable. I wasn't squicked like many a watcher, I was fascinated, because I could see the tragic possibilities right away. Also, the creepy mixture between maternal ("baby") and friend-offering-sex Cordy/Jasmine displays towards Connor is very well done
Babylon 5
Alas, the highly emotional moments weren't kisses. Well, there was John/Delenn in War Without End, but I think you have to be a 'shipper to count it, and I'm not. Moments like Vir and Londo embracing in season 4 when the Vorlons darken the sun, G'kar clasping Londo's arms Centauri-style in The Fall of Centauri Prime, Delenn hugging Londo in And all my dreams, torn assunder are the gestures that stay with me. (And they all involve Londo. I wonder why?)
However, in lieu of memorable B5 kisses, I offer
deadspeaker's very creative take on the Very Secret Diaries of certain B5 characters, here. (In the comments. Though the pictures in the main entry are also nice.*g*)
And while we're at links: if I recommend a Sirius/Remus story, you can probably guess it won't be a happy one. Hint: it starts with "The first time Sirius called him 'James' during sex, Remus pretended not to hear." Here.
Lastly, Anthony Minghella, the gifted man who directed The English Patient and The Talented Mr. Ripley, gets interviewed and portrayed on the occasion of his new movie here.
I'll be in Berlin for a couple of days, which will probably mean very limited net access.
