RMSE Reveal: Eve of Destruction
Aug. 7th, 2022 06:21 amI've always been fascinated with the Brontes, both the works and the lives; extraordinarily talented siblings with intense relationships towards each other, how could I not? Of the fictionalization of their lives, I liked the film To Walk Invisible enormously. Consequently, when I saw this year's RMSE exchange had To Walk Invisible (directed by Sally Wainwright, these days busy with Gentleman Jack) nominated as one of its fandoms, and Branwell (Charlotte's, Emily's and Anne's messed up brother)/Joseph Leyland (his best friend, a sculptor), as a pairing, this was actually one big reason why I participated. (Since initially I had wanted to skip this year.) As it turned out, this was the request I was assigned to, and the one of the three I thought I could do which I most wanted to get. What's more, my recipient wrote me a lovely, detailed comment, which, trust me, I'm not taking for granted anymore. (I was unlucky enough to particpate in some exchanges where the recipients couldn't be bothered for even a "thanks for writing for me" comment.)
Now, while the movie was what inspired my recipient's request, I dare say the story works without knowing this particular canon, since I think I put all that's important to know about Branwell and Leyland in the story itself. This being me, Branwell's relationship with his sister Charlotte is the other red thread through the story. And here's the result of my Bronte interests:
