Mar. 14th, 2006 06:12 pmYesterday I was in Salzburg, for Real Life reasons, but had the chance to visit the Viva Mozart! exhibition, which is splendid (and has its own website, English version here. It's interactive, which doesn't just mean to touch the occasional computer screen (thought that's fun - unwrapping gifts for Mozart's anniversary from famous contemporaries - Goethe sent a copy of Faust with an offer to set it to music, but in a way that "doesn't mangle the text" and threatens that Meyerbeer could do it if Mozart says no, Joseph II. sends a copy of Les Liasons Dangereuses, etc.) but means, in one instance, to learn how to dance the menuet in the recreation of a late 18th century ballroom. Great fun; also not that difficult, though I imagine I still looked rather clumsy when making my six menuet steps at the end.
I'm currently in Bad Wiessee for one last day of skiing, due to my depressed Aged Parent needing to be cheered up again, and on Thursday it's off to the Leipzig Book Fair, then on the road all the time, so if I'm late with anyone's mail, forgive me.
