Summarize 10 of your fandoms in one sentence, then see who on your friends' list can guess each fandom.

1. The epic tale of two ambassadors in love, co-starring angelic aides and scheming telepathic cops -

Babylon 5, guessed first by [livejournal.com profile] kangeiko

2. Man of faith with a talent of dooming people he loves has thing for family in same profession -

Alias, [livejournal.com profile] kangeiko again

3. She breaks (herself and others), she picks herself up and starts again; she tries; that's why I love her

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, see above

4. Bodychanging anglophile alien seeks significant others

Dr. Who, first guessed by [livejournal.com profile] kalypso_v

5. We could be looking at the good guys; this is worrying (sidenote: actually, that works for three of my fandoms, but I mean the oldest of the three )

Blake's 7, [livejournal.com profile] altariel recognized the quote, of course; I always thought it would work for Farscape and Firefly as well

6. The epic tale of a vicious killer, her boy and their darling boy

Angel, [livejournal.com profile] kangeiko

7. Spies and businessnessmen rule, and scheming theologians aren't bad, either

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, [livejournal.com profile] kangeiko

8. Choosing between siblings is a bitch, and the Code isn't helping

Dexter, guessed at last by [livejournal.com profile] kernezelda

9. Are you alive?

New Battlestar Galactica, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] eye_of_a_cat

10. There are less complicated ways to commit suicide and get yourself reborn with new jewelry

Sandman, guessed by the cunning [livejournal.com profile] danel4d

1. Babylon 5, obviously.
2. I haven't seen it, but from reading your reviews maybe Alias?
3. I'm trying to fit this to Laura Roslin, because I know you love her, and Battlestar Galactica must be in there somewhere. But (see below) I'm pondering that for 10, too, which leads me to wonder whether you might have loved Buffy.
4. Doctor Who.
5. Blake's Seven.
6. Angel.
7. This is the other one I thought might be Alias, but on a closer look it's got to be Deep Space Nine, though the scheming theologian is the only one ruling in a literal sense.
8. I'm getting out of my depth by this point, and can only think that the episode of Heroes I saw had some siblings in it.
9. And this might be a relevant question for the Lost.
10. Reborn is another word suggesting Battlestar Galactica, but I can't remember jewellery. Then again, I am about 14 episodes out of date. So I'm dithering between 3 and 10 for that, and trying to remember another of your fandoms which might fit either of them. I can't remember you saying you love Buffy, but maybe I just arrived too late to hear about it?

1. The epic tale of two ambassadors in love, co-starring angelic aides and scheming telepathic cops

b5, as already said.

3. She breaks (herself and others), she picks herself up and starts again; she tries; that's why I love her

buffy, as already said, and so perfect for her!

4. Bodychanging anglophile alien seeks significant others

DOCTOR WHOOOOOOOOOOO!

6. The epic tale of a vicious killer, her boy and their darling boy
Angel, of course.

2. Man of faith with a talent of dooming people he loves has thing for family in same profession
8. Choosing between siblings is a bitch, and the Code isn't helping
9. Are you alive?
10. There are less complicated ways to commit suicide and get yourself reborn with new jewelry

Is 9 Life on Mars? No. Hmm.
Damnit, I really want to know what these four are. 2 could be Alias but it doesn't quite feel right. And 8 is on the tip of my tongue but I can't fix it!

1, yes, 2, yes, Alias, 3 is Buffy not Laura, though yes, BSG is in this meme, 4, 5, 6 all true, 7 is DS9 indeed, 9 is BSG (it's the first sentence we ever hear, spoken by Six in the miniseries, and it is relevant to the show on several levels), 10 is neither. (And not tv or film.)

2 is Alias from my, err, somewhat biased perspective. (See icon). 9 is not Life on Mars....

You didn't say whether 8 was wrong. But clearly I need to think harder about the jewellery.

Um... is 10 Sandman? It does sound kind of like a description of the entire series...

I'd have easily got 4 and 6 as well, but they're already done. No idea about 8.

Purely on the basis of your comment re 10, I'm wondering about X-Men, which I haven't read since 1983. Though I suppose it has been filmed recently.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, see above

Perfect summary!!!

I've been re-watching the series, and loving Buffy more and more and more as I do. She's now my favorite character, overall, in BtVS canon. (In my fanfic, I focus on other characters...but that's partly because Buffy's been developed so perfectly in canon that there really isn't that much more to do with her in fanfic.)

Also: I read you Fanged Four Dynamics revisited (http://selenak.livejournal.com/265080.html), and I think it's absolutely fascinating, and I completely agree with you.

In general, vampires aren't what interests me in Buffyverse. But I do find the matriarchal-ness of the Fanged Four (and especially the dynamic between Darla and Angel) to be fascinating.

Oh, I know what you mean with fanfiction, and quite agree. Which is why I haven't written much about Buffy myself, despite loving her as a character.

Dynamics: yes, that matriarchal-ness was arguably the greatest departure from traditional pop culture vampire presentations, and had me hooked.

It's like that with a lot of stories, I think: characters who are very well-developed in canon aren't as interesting to write fanfiction about.
In LotR, Frodo is my favorite character, but I've never been interested in reading or writing fanfiction about him: he's perfectly developed in canon, and there really isn't anything more to say.

I'm not familiar with the traditional pop culture vampire presentations, and it still had me hooked! :-D
