Back in Munich and en route to Bamberg, as tomorrow is father's day in Germany.

Fanfiction: the last Heroes episode produced some fanfiction on that previously most disliked of characters, Candice. Two completely different and yet both entirely plausible takes on her backstory as hinted at to Micah:

All the Popular Girls in High School - great, and not just for the twist at the end.


Black is the colour of my true love's hair - also excellent, and it focuses on the other interesting revelation about Candice, that she truly believes in Linderman.

One of the things I like most about the Candice storyline is that Candice *herself* seems to be surprised at how well she's getting along with Micah, and how sympathetic she feels towards him.

I've heard some people saying that the Candice-as-fat-girl reveal is lame, but I think we can often underestimate (as Candice herself points out) how cruel people can be to others just based on physical appearance. I can completely understand how someone might want to assume a disguise all the time, and get a kick out of the power they wield by being in a body like Candice's. Those fics expressed that so well.

Candice and Micah: true, and I love that they're not playing it as Candice's mother instinct awakening - she seems to relate to Micah on an equal level, as if befriending him as a fellow child or adult. (And of course we have no idea how old Candice is, either. She could be 15, she would be 51.)

And yes, that was how the reveal worked for me, too - it made complete psychological sense out of what we had seen of Candice so far.
