Heroes 2.02 Lizards
Oct. 2nd, 2007 12:45 pmMr. Muggles: the true mastermind of the Bennet family? Just asking.
This episode didn't quite make me into fannish goo as much as the last one, which doesn't mean I didn't love it. Yay for the Haitian rejoining the plot (and Noah Bennet), and the fanservice in the form of lots of shots of shirtless!tied!Peter (my, Milo has been working out) amused me a lot. More seriously, it's a nice touch that the superpowers aren't the only thing with Peter that come by instinct; so do his nursing skills. I always appreciate reminders that the man was/is a nurse. Which is why I'm overlooking we had two damsels in distress rescues by the menfolk in direct order (Hiro and Yaeko, and Peter and Irish Girl), three if you include Alejandro y Maya.
What we also have is yet another sibling pair, and colour me amused about that one as well. In addition to the co-dependent power twins, we now have the Irish brother and sister Peter ended up with, with the older brother seemingly dismissive and sarcastic and the younger sibling chaffing under that and reaching out to others via kindness, but actually the two are close. Hm, I wonder why Peter feels sort of at home? *veg*
Hiro doing the Kensei heroics of legend was what most people, including yours truly, expected, as was Kensei turning out to have regenerative power. Yaeko was a bit too dazzled this week as opposed to last week where she was delightfully angry and unimpressed, but otoh, she did see "Kensei" pull off a rescue with magic feats, and she still has a father to rescue. The visual with the cherry blossom petals was probably meant as a deliberate echo to Charlie and the origami birds, but did not work quite as poignantly. Otoh, Hiro starting to crush on Yaeko and being prepared to go all Cyrano on Kensei's behalf was touching.
Bennets: am I ever glad we got to see Sandra putting her foot down. That was the deal, was it? And at least he does tell her about the painting, though he still seems to keep his Mohinder-related activities secret. I also loved Sandra's gentle admonishment to Claire re: the boiling water incident about showing off.
Speaking of Claire, her continued thinking of how to use her powers to help people? Love it. And getting the idea from her teacher's talk about lizards in school was clever writing. Mind you, I can completely see why Noah B. wants to stop that line of thought, because the extreme end is indeed the use of Claire as a living organ bank, and not voluntarily. The last scene, with Mr. Muggles trying to point out to her that she's not the only one currently exposing her power and Claire just not looking up was deliciously frustrating.
Best scene of the episode, though? Without a question Angela getting interrogated by the NYPD. Great use of continuity as they have her on file due to the sock incident. Her poise and the way she noticed Matt was telepathically spying on her, and her "get out of my head" was just awesome. (It also begs the question whether Angela notices because she's used to superpowered folk, including telepaths, or whether her own power is somehow related to telepathy.) And in contrast to that, the horror at the attack was played by Christine Rose as fantastically. As I said, the outstanding scene of the episode was clearly Angela Petrelli's. Oh, and her sang-froid implication that she used to have sex with Kaito back in the day? Priceless. I want fanfic. Or I must write it.
Nathan's short talk with Matt seems to indicate that a) Matt didn't notice him at Kirby Plaza (figures - Matt had four bullets in him at that point), and b) Nathan can pull himself together for such occasions as bailing out his mother. With Matt's superior remarking the assassin either fell down and walked away or could fly and Nathan being at the police station at all, he continues to be set up as a suspect, but I think it's also obvious that he's the red herring here, Nathan not having the ability to attack through walls telekinetically/mentally. I think it's the later - imo the blood on Angela's cheek was from her own nails and the killer has an ability not unrelated to Candace's, making people see things. Which, in turn, ties to Nathan seeing his burned self in the mirror of the bar last episode.
So, next week? Soon?
