Idle thought while reading through Brian Bendis New Avengers 1-6: this is why I can't boycott Marvel. You sure don't find the DC folk canonically strung up naked and completely aware of the absurdity (complaining to each other that they're still waiting for the evil monologue), with dialogue like, and here I have to retranslate, because I read it in German:

Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman): Why did they take our underwear?
Peter Parker (Spider-man): They didn't take mine. I don't wear any.
Jessica: Why aren't you wearing any underwear?
Peter: Because it chafes?

Also, those panels of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, aka Iron Man and Captain America, sharing donuts and flying must make [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce and [livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel very happy and prove Bendis was a Steve/Tony 'shipper long before The Confession...

Fanfic!

Heroes/Dr. Who crossover:

Survival, in which Claude Rains ends up in London. Great Claude and Rose voices, spoilers through season 1 of Heroes and season 2/28 of Dr. Who.

Heroes:

Five Times Nathan Petrelli Crashed Down To Earth, by [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63. If you don't know Yahtzee through her superb Alias fanfic, you might know her through her older AtS and BTVS stories. If you haven't read those, you know her via her Star Wars stories. Now she has started to write Heroes. *sits back and enjoys*

Pirates of the Caribbean:

The Swan in Flight is a wonderful look at Elizabeth after AWE. As it's written by artaxastra, one expects it to be good, but what came as a delightful surprise to me was the way she uses Elizabeth's relationship with her dead father, Governor Swann, fleshes out Captain Teague (aka The One Played By Keith Richards) and focuses on Elizabeth learning to be Pirate King in more than one way.

I believe they're bagels, actually. ;) I may love that little detail unconditionally, because it proves that Steve and Tony totally pass the broccoli test. I mean, I love my friends, but honestly, I have no idea what their favorite kind of bagels are. Steve and Tony are just that in love special.

Wait until later in the series, when Steve is shown to have private override codes for Tony's armor. I thought I made up that detail in the House of TM, as something that, you know, a married couple would do. And then I reread that arc and realized, no, it's actually canon.

Bendis totally ships them like a mad mad thing.

Aww, New Avengers! That's the volume with the Savage Land, right? Spidey is way adorable in that, and the Steve/Tony stuff is both cute as all hell, and uneaasily foreshadowing, looking back. (I'm sure Civil War per se wasn't planned at that point, but given the nature of their relationship over the years, it was kind of inevidentable that it would foreshadow something bad!)

I don't know if you're going for the second volume, as I recall, is mostly about the Sentry, and for some reason features lots of Emma Frost (you can decide for yourself how you feel about Bendis' characterization of the latter --) Most importantly from my POV, it has a great scene of Tony telling Logan that he needs to join the NA team because being around Steve Rogers makes bad old guys with shady pasts (like Logan and Tony, apparently) want to be better people. If it excludes a reference to azure eyes -- well, that clearly happened in the private, after-conversation that you didn't see.

You may also remember me from films such as "The Verdict Was Mail Fraud" and "Leper in the Backfield"!

Seriously, thanks for the rec. And hey, chime in on the Petrelli playlist ideas if you have some!

Have you read Bendis's independent series "Powers"? I think, somehow, you would like it -- it's a police procedural. With superpowers.

Ah, American food, you trick me! But I knew you love that panel.*g*

Private override codes are canon? Seriously? *is awed ad Bendis' shippiness*

That's the volume with the Savage Land, right?

Yes, with Jessica (I think, could have been someone else, too) saying the inevitable crash will happen soon, because you always crash in the Savage Land (which even with my limited X-Men knowledge I now is true *g*), and Tony smugly replying they never flew with him and landing the Quinjet safely. This of course made me wonder: how come [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce never wrote a Tony versus Scott pilot pissing contest?

*wails*

But I suck at making soundtracks, much as I love it when other people make them up! I'm trying to think about good, fitting songs, though, and will have a long drive back to Munich ahead of me today, so there's time. Meanwhile, so you don't think I'm not trying to be helpful, there's this:

. . .

Wow, how come I never thought of that? I guess I'm so used to thinking of Tony in the armor that I don't think of him as a pilot even though, well, when the character was first designed in the early 60s, he was basically supposed to be (young, pre-breakdown) Howard Hughes.

Also, you know, Scott's father was kidnapped by the Shi'ar, originally, because he was the best pilot in the world and was about to be sent to NASA for astronaut training. This -- becomes relevant when seen in light of my ultimate-verse theory, that Ultimate Tony is actually Ultimate Scott's father.
