Rain and real life frustrations make for a depressing Monday. Thankfully, there are compensations in the form of various people getting creative in various fandoms. To wit:

Battlestar Galactica

The Kindly Ones by [livejournal.com profile] eye_of_a_cat is a wonderful take on Laura Roslin and Leoben. Laura is a tricky character to render in fanfic, often depicted as either too all-knowing and cold or too warm and nice, but here she is in her ruthless, intelligent questioning (not just others but herself, too) layeredness, and the underlying themes of faith, of what separates, or not, humans and Cylons are BSG at its best.

Harry Potter

The one you're trying to save is a take on Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald and that backstory Deathly Hallows presented with. I love that the relationship isn't the only thing explored; so is Albus as a character in transition, from the young man with a severe case of superbia (and family issues) to the Dumbledore we get to meet so many years later.

Doctor Who and Torchwood

Affirmation is a vid which is basically one irresistable love declaration to the characters of DW and TW alike. It's hard not to be swept away, and I didn't even try.

Resonance: Blink was the Doctor-and-Companion-lite episode in s3 and aside from the way it rocked beyond belief, it never fails to amuse me that its tiny, tiny subplot of the Doctor and Martha trapped in 1969 continues to inspire a lot of great fanfic. This is one such story, which has them encounter Liz Shaw, the Third Doctor's first Companion. I always adore Old Who and New Who match-ups, and this one works very well.

Bright Star is also a New Who and Old Who match-up, and indeed manages to bring in The Sarah Jane Adventures a little bit, too, as Ian and Barbara, the First Doctor's Companions, keep running into Sarah Jane Smith. But not exactly in the same order as she keeps running into them. Ah, time travel. And awwwww, companions of all eras unite!

Twenty things to do in Cardiff when you're dead is a great mixture of humour and angst. No prizes for guessing whose point of view it is. Spoilers up to Something Borrowed.

The TW newsletter which links meta and fanfic alike is [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_three, which is how I find most of them.

(The DW newletter is [livejournal.com profile] who_daily, same moderators.)

Thanks for the recc! I did wonder if just the title itself was spoilery, but I reckoned I'd get away with it.

Oh absolutely. I didn't want to spoil anyone who hadn't watched the relevant episodes yet, so I didn't give the name; the title really works for anyone who has watched that far, and is obscure enough for anyone who hadn't.

Also, you're welcome! I loved the story.
