Recs: Angst and Fun
Jun. 3rd, 2008 08:57 pmBecause like most fans, I enjoy both. Which is why everything produced by Joss Whedon as well as Doctor Who and its spin-offs drew me in. So, today's fanfic recs:
Torchwood:
But he'll get me: to me, the relationship between Owen and Jack is frankly the most interesting on the show, but it doesn't get much fanfic attention. When it does, though, the fanfiction tends to be good. This one is superb: an AU take on End of Days, the season 1 finale, in which after events happened just a tad differently Owen remains fired and Jack does go after him with the retcon. The dialogue is sharp and true, as are the characterisations: Jack in his moral ambiguity and Owen in his angry, messed-up brokenness. A superb story, as is usual with this particular author.
Friends of the Bride: this, on the other hand, is a joyful comedy (and a DW crossover), set during Martha's wedding at some point in the future, which both the Torchwood team plus the Doctor and Donna attend. Featuring competing stories about wedding disasters (Donna wins over Gwen in that one), Drunken!Doctor and Jack and Ianto traumatizing the plants some more. Enjoy!
Doctor Who:
Pyrrhic Victory: something I haven't seen before, short, dark and wonderfully twisted, as it should be: the Master's pov during that scene in Last of the Time Lords.
Wardrobe Malfunction 37: whereas this is another fun look at Donna and the Doctor in season 4. Donna is forced to don one of Leela's outfits. She's not happy...
