Yesterday and today was and is being useful time (tm), so while it kept me busy none stop, there is nothing to report; however, I can't leave England without giving you some glimpses of London that didn't fit in earlier posts. Having visited London quite a lot, I still find myself thinking the walk between Waterloo Station and London Bridge on the bank of the Thames is one of the most beautiful around, which is why I do it each time. Usually in combination with theatre visits, as both the National and the Globe are there. Back on Wednesday evening, it was the Globe with a production of Timon of Athens, which was gorgeously staged - very powerful imagery of humans as vultures and an aviary - but that's a late Shakespeare which is deservedly obscure, packed with stuff he did better in other plays, so I didn't write a review. But it did lead to another Thames stroll, admiring London, so here are some last pictures before I'm going back to Darth Real Life (and Germany):

Yes, it is. No matter what time of day you do it it's always a gorgeous walk but in the evening it's particularly beautiful. Lovely photos with that gorgeous fading light.

I've been thinking I ought to go to the Globe again, but I don't think Timon of Athens is the play for me somehow!

Have a safe journey home.

Again, thanx for the pictures. If I lived there I'd walk that ever evening.

The Globe looks marvelous...

I saw David Suchet play Timon in a modern production at the Young Vic in 1991 (liberal use of the pop song "I want your money") - I enjoyed it, I might go again if a production popped up near me, but it's not one of those plays I'd seek out.

Somehow, I've never been to the Globe.

I've only been because [livejournal.com profile] selenak picked me up by the scruff of my neck and deposited me in with the groundlings, so to speak *g*. Seriously, it is great fun and you become much more involved with the play than sitting well back in a conventionally shaped theatre.

It's so worth visiting. The groundling experience K. describes below, though sitting and watching is also fun, and the ensemble is excellent.

Just arrived home safely, and Timon (which I don't see as your play, either) isn't the only one currently being shown - there is also Lear, in what [livejournal.com profile] londonkds assures me is an excellent production. (It's just that I had never seen Timon staged before, so I was curious and watched that one.)

Oh to be in England, now that August is there. Though happy as I was there, I'm also somewhat relieved to be back home, which I am since all of five minutes or so. After all, I went basically straight from Bali to the Brits!

So would I, believe me. The Globe is wonderful. You've seen it in The Shakespeare Code (they filmed the stage scenes there), and it really feels like that in performance.
