One Sentence Meme: X-Men

selenakHappy inauguration day, America! Yes, you could, and you did, and you can again. My favourite sentence, hands down, was "We reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals". That is the US one can admire, going right back to Benjamin Franklin and his "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety" .
In less political news, I'm still struggling with writer's block, which means another meme. After having done an old fandom the last time, I'm doing a (relatively, for me) new fandom this time; and specifically for a pairing in said fandom. So:
Try to write different categories of fic (angst, fluff, UST, etc) in one sentence.
...the Hank McCoy/Abigail Brand edition, for Astonishing X-Men.
Spoilers: For Whedon's AXM run and Bendis' Secret Invasion. Oh, and for something from Morrison's era.

Angst
“I am not good at understanding jokes,” Peter says when Hank mentions he has started a non-professional relationship with Agent Brand, Russian accent thicker than usual, and for a moment, Hank thinks he can see the scars of experimentation on Colossus’ flawless surface.
AU
“This is Abigail,” Professor Xavier said mildly, and Hank knew with a sinking heart he’d be stuck with babysitting the green-haired brat who had just drowned his goldfish in the toilet.
Crackfic
Borrowing one of Emma’s outfits for the wedding was very last minute, but it worked.
Crossover
“Have you ever heard of someone named Milo Rambaldi?” Brand asked, sounding exasperated already.
Death
Finding her alive means he doesn’t have to explain why he came back for her when he believed her dead.
Episode-Related (Astonishing X-Men #22)
She watches him move among frozen dead bodies, mourning for their enemies, and for the first time feels bereft of anything to say.
First Time
They’ve done everything else before he kisses her, and when he does, she surprises him by finally closing her eyes.
Fluff
When Scott tells him they’re moving to San Francisco, Hank has to cancel their first date; Brand shows up anyway to help him pack.
Humor
Brand had been accused of much in her time, but being called a “beard” was new; perhaps this Trish Tilby person had her confused?
H/C
A week after the Skrull invasion, there is still ash washing out of her hair when she showers; wordlessly, he wraps a towel around her to help her dry.
Smut
You learn a body the way you learn a language; echoing the non-human sounds she makes, he does both.
UST
She’s quick with her insults and quicker with her traps; it’s simply to keep his teammates safe that he finds himself matching her in every way.

Date: 2009-01-21 02:27 am (UTC)I think the UST is a very good summation of them, and I love the smut and first time ones (and I am not a very sex-story person, so I guess it's because they both reveal so much about both of them). Death and angst would make great full fics too.
I haven't read enough of First Class to really *need* that AU, but it seems like it would be silly and :) :) :) and Hank in any way is always brilliant. And you are the brilliantest, so DO ITTTTTTTTT. :D
