I'm not a Beckett fan, but -

- how can one not want to see that play now?

O_O OMG, I don't even know how to process that. Especially since I am a bit of a Beckett fan. :) Oh, I really wish I could see this!

Yes indeed. Who is the casting genius who managed to get a hold of all of them?

I don't even like the play and I would go see it!

I love these two together. I want them to star in everything together from now until the end of time. I also want them to become roommates or something and have a reality series full of wacky hijinks. I also want a lot of RPF for them...but that might be TMI.

I had to read it for Philosophy 101 in college. The actors are great, but the story is DULL. I wouldn't go see it.

:) Ian McKellen has certainly baiting the RPF-writers for a while with quotes like "If you've got Mystique as your girlfriend the fun you could have in bed - I've just imagined X-Men 3 might open with me in bed with Patrick Stewart". But you know, ageism strikes again, I suppose.

Anyway, them starring in everything from now until the end of time sounds like perfection for this particular fangirl. Not that I didn't enjoy Patrick Stewart and Other People You Don't Like on stage together as well last year, or Patrick Stewart in various earlier stage productions I saw, she added smugly. (Sadly, I wasn't able to catch Sir Ian in anything yet.)

I checked Ian McKellen's homepage, and apparantly the genius who came up with this idea was Sean Mathis.

Sadly, a trip to England would be very difficult for me to manage right now anyway. Though if it was a Shakespeare play (or for that matter Noel Coward - I don't insist on the bard!) I might throw caution and obligations in the wind. The Beckett factor probably saves my budget.

I can't even. Anyone who can look at those two and not think dirty thoughts is...probably not anyone I'd care to know.

I've only seen him on stage once, but it was magnificent. He played Othello at the Shakespeare Theatre in DC. It was FABULOUS.

Were I not separated from this production by a convenient ocean, I would HAVE to go, despite having not particularly liked the play when we studied it at school. If those two wanted to stand on stage and read the Greater London phone book at each other for two hours, it would be worth watching.

I saw him in Aladdin. In a gold lame corset, with Union Jack hotpants and not a whole lot else.

I have yet to recover from the experience.

Why do you have usual hate for the Theatre Royal Haymarket? Is it a favourite Tory resort, or something like that?

While I could think of some as slashy featuring other actors, it's definitely the slashiest I've seen with these two. The best thing is that it must be deliberate, because the original poster, which was used in October last year when the casting was first announced? Wasn't nearly as slashy. Look and compare:

No kidding. Clearly, someone in the pr department had a look and declared "chaps, we can do better than that". Meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] kangeiko has pointed me towards this gorgeous RSC group shot from 2006:

...and I have to ask you: are there any photos of the time where Gareth Thomas, Stephen Greif & Patrick Stewart were all with the RSC - "Troilus and Cressida", right?

There is a Patrick Stewart one...? It's by the same maker, look in their tags in their icon journal (ogeeicons, if i am not mistaken)under actor: ian mckellen and there is a variety. But, alas, not a Dench/McKellen/Stewart one, for that would surely be my default icon of doom. Yes.

FW has played Didi. I'm sure she'll have something to say :)

Gareth was Pat's understudy for Hector for T+C. I don't have any photos from that. I got a lot of pics from the RSC archives, so I'm guessing if there had been any, I'd probably have found them, though sometimes only the main person on a photo is indexed.

PS. Lovely group photo!

Sadly, I am so anti-Beckett (and the Beckett Estate, in general, with its iron-clad hold on all directorial decisions of all productions of his plays) that as awesome as that picture is, it doesn't sway me one smidge to see the play.

But if they'd be so kind enough as to star in a Shakespeare or Noel Coward play together, yes, please!

Speaking of Noel Coward, I have tickets to see Angela Lansbury in Blithe Spirit on Broadway, and I could not be more excited!
