I always liked that TNG didn't just give Picard archaelogy as a hobby for one episode, when it was convenient, but kept this up as a character trait, so I had to pay homage, well, and to the fact Picard is Picard about the details.
As for Quark, like Dax says, I just love him and am happy to prove it in meme replies.*g*
