Heroes, you will not get me back with all this talk on my flist about spoilery things gathered by Claire and Nathan bonding over tequila, gambling and undressing in Mexico, or Peter and Angela bonding over ranting at God and also undressing in churches. The Sylar creature is still there, you still sacrificed Elle's characterisation to him, and Bob, you still haven't written Hiro as more than a "let's do Hiro something cute, the fans will like it" character since the end of s2, and what do I hear about Matt being a baby? Not to mention that since the end of s2, I couldn't see a concept for the overall plot other than "okay, everyone liked Five Years Gone in season 1, let's play out as many variations of that as we can, never mind about character logic". I'm still staying away. Petrellis, you will not lure me back to get all disappointed again.

A somewhat cryptic advise - wait at least until the season is over, if you find yourself drawn back. It really depends on the ending in this case.

Also, I'm pretty sure Matt has a baby, not Matt is a baby.

Its more Matts baby (and indeed wife) make a return after her sudden departure between S1 & S2. We may see Nathans family back yet. Of course that means the speedster is fodder for the plot bunnies, and I don't mean Sylars stuffed one ...

Oh and its a 25 episode season so several more left .. but I've enjoyed Volume 4 way more than 3 ...

Oh, don't worry. No matter how cute individual episodes sound, I'm not going back until I hear enough assurances they managed an entire worthwhile season. And even then I'm deterred by the prospect of Sylar the eternal.

I'm still watching but I'm on the fence. The show really has to find a direction. It's still being somewhat scattered and feels like it's wandering around like a drunk during Mardi Gras.

And I do wish that Hiro would get to work with the others more often...

I can live with Sylar so long as he's killing people unrepentantly, but by golly his plotline post-Mohinder has been boring and convoluted. Sadly, Zachary Quinto is so Sylar-specific now for me, I don't know if I'll be able to shake it off for the new Star Trek movie. Monday night's episode featured him with a beautiful smile for one scene, and I just couldn't appreciate the sheer aesthetic quality because of the character.

I have other worries re: the new movie, but the Spocklar factor is definitely one of them. I mean: I adored Michael C. Hall as David Fisher in Six Feet Under and yet had no problem to accept him as Dexter Morgan, a completely different character, in Dexter from the pilot onwards. (Ditto with Julie Benz as Darla and Rita respectively.) But I'm not sure Zachary Quinto is versatile enough to make me see him as Spock...

The show has gone up considerably in quality since Volume 4 began. However, I mainly continue watching because Angela Petrelli's still alive. If they kill her off, I may quit too.

Also, Sylar is like a cockroach, he'll never die. :(

I just realized this week that I've lost "it" with Heroes. The fannish joy, fervor, whatever it is. I can objectively say that Volume 4 is miles better than Volume 3, but I've stopped caring, which makes me so sad. :-(

I hope this Volume ends well so that you can have one more fandom to rejoice over, though.

This is pretty much how I feel about Lost. I keep hearing that it's gotten better, and the episodes I've seen here and there certainly seem to confirm that, but I can't work up the energy to become invested in the show and its characters again. I think if I'd pushed through the lousy seasons the way I did with Heroes (and don't ask me why I stuck with one but not the other - mainly I think that I was less invested in Heroes to begin with and so less disappointed when it went south) I'd probably be following it quite happily right now, but I've lost the fannish momentum and can't make myself care enough to get it back.

Heroes has gotten a lot better these last few weeks, and this week's episode was quite strong, but I can certainly understand someone who's untangled themselves from the show not wanting to dive back in.

*nods*

Losing the fannish momentum is depressing enough, and I just don't want to do it twice with the same show. (BTW, yes, we have reversed position on Lost and Heroes.) And the original emotional investment certainly makes a difference. I fell pretty fast for Heroes and found it very inspiring for fanfiction - I think over 30 stories in less than a year - whereas with Lost there was like, not love, plus I watched it on dvd until season 4 and so could zip through the weak episodes instead of having to wait weeks for good ones.

There are two Matt Parkmans, big guy (the original) and a baby that should have Jr. added to his name.

What it all comes down to is it is just a show. (I'm saying this more for my benefit than yours, just a reminder.) It just makes me sad that there seem to be so many people that won't even give it a second chance. Even before Bryan Fuller returned, the show seemed to be getting back on track. Since he came back, it's been amazing.

Although, I'm coming from the perspective of a person who watches the show mainly for the Petrellis (Peter in particular) and Bennets (HRG in particular). I like Mohinder (except in Volume 3, but that was more about what they were doing to him - Sendhil's too pretty to mess with him like they did :( ) and Matt's okay. As for Sylar, eh I definitely don't love him but I also don't hate him (except when they depowered Peter, then I was verging on hate and wanted him gone and will still want him gone if Peter doesn't get his power back to what it used to be).

One constant has been the production value. The visuals (directing, editing and MOST of the special effects) have always been amazing. Check out Otto Berkeley's reviews (http://www.herosite.net/blog/). He does a very good job of pointing out the best and worst of each episode.

Also, my love of the show, which waned a bit since Season 1, has returned to the anxious excitement I used to have for it.

Lastly, you might want to check out this interview (http://scifiwire.com/2009/04/bryan-fuller-is-honest-ab.php) with Bryan Fuller.

If nothing else, I'm just glad you aren't trashing the show every chance you get which seems to be the "in" thing. Thank you for that. :)

I feel the same way about Lost. I gave up on it somewhere in the third season, and have no interest in going back there.
I almost gave up on Heroes last season, and in fact stopped watching just before the end of the season. I watched the season opener this year just to see if it had improved any, and was interested enough to continue, so far. I am a big Angela Petrelli fan, but I wouldn't be too sad if Sylar finally bought it. We need more of the Hiro and Ando show, too.

It's gotten SO good this volume. I might even venture to say as good or better than season one.... It's awesome. :)

Honestly, as someone who didn't mind season 2 but thought season 3 was crap, season 4 has been genuinely good. The best part about it, particularly for the last few episodes is that they haven't been trying to shoehorn characters in- it's been okay, we can't service all these characters into one episode so let's just focus on a few at time. And it's working. It feels a bit like season 1, when you felt all of these disparate people coming together for a purpose not quite known yet. And drunk!Nathan was briliant.

BTW, I thought you hit the nail right on the head with Andy Hallet and Lorne in Angel. The outsider looking in so often, the essential presence you don't notice until he's not there anymore. Such a great character, played so sweetly.
