Yes, the whole Mrs. Padmore-Daisy conflict was probably the strongest written plot of the season. Clearly, Mrs. Padmore is in the wrong in what she does and continues to push Daisy into long after William's death, but on the other hand, her motivations are compelling enough to not write her off as a person.
Arguably, I think Daisy should have taken the pension. It may be living a lie, but the additional funds have to be better than continuing to serve as the scullery maid for another decade. And the entire plot shows that Daisy is more than the simpleton they made her out to be in the first season.
