Romancing the Lake
Jul. 8th, 2012 02:47 pmThankfully, when one lives near the Alps, being real life busy still means one can enjoy the magnificent scenery now and then. I mean:

The Tegernsee is one of the big Bavarian lakes. Which means it's big for us Europeans; for Americans, it's a tiny pond, compared to the likes of Lake Erie etc. Still, you have to go up the mountains somewhat to get a photo of the entire thing because if you're down on the lakeside, that never works. So, this is it, with the closest town you can spot being Bad Wiessee:

Now for more details. The photo above the cut showed you the lake from Kaltenbrunn. This is the lake as seen in Gmund:

The whole area is ideal for hiking, with lots of paths like this:

And of course you meet the local animals along the way:

Most often, the happy cows. So called because I don't know about your parents, but the way my mother used to make me drink milk as a small child was thusly: "It's good milk from the happy cows!" (The unhappy ones being the ones who lived in mass stables.) When we visited family who lived up here, i.e. this part of Bavaria where I am now, she used to point to the beasts and tell me, "see, these are the happy cows your milk is from!" So, have some happy cows.

A farmhouse, i.e. "Alm" which is actually several centuries old as it used to belong to the Tegernsee monastery that has been around since the 12th century:

And now for some forest views:

Near Rottach, you have the little rivlets flowing into the lake, thusly:

And now the lake once more, from Rottach, as a farewell before I go back to work:
